Blakeney recently sponsored the launch of the political book of the year - ‘Ungovernable’ - by former Chief Whip, Simon Hart.
Over the course of 5 years, Simon had a front-row seat to the most turbulent times in recent British political history and kept a diary of what he saw. From 2019 to 2022 he was Secretary of State for Wales before taking on the role of Chief Whip for the former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
We held the event at the fantastic The London Library with speeches from Blakeney Founder and CEO Gabe Winn, Simon Hart, and Lord Dobbs, the Author of House of Cards.
Speaking at the event, Gabe said:
“Despite the ever-shifting global landscape, this book has been the talk of Westminster for many weeks now, and it really will be a fascinating read.
“Already - from the extracts - you can really see and feel Simon’s dry wit and incredible writing style, whilst simultaneously getting a rare insight into the day-to-day mechanics of life at the top of Government.
“Simon will be signing copies of the books throughout the evening, just here to my right, so please do come over and purchase a copy.
“So much went on between the years that Simon’s diaries cover, but apparently, we didn’t know the half of it. Today, we all find out”.
As per Politico’s London Playbook, attendees at the launch include: Work and Pensions Secretary Helen Whately … Conservative MP Edward Argar … Plaid Cymru MP Ben Lake … Labour MP Jessica Morden … former Tory frontbenchers Gillian Keegan and Nadhim Zahawi … Conservative peers Graham Brady and James Wharton … former Conservative MPs Jeffrey Archer, Andrew Percy, Jeremy Quin, Robert Largan, Amanda Milling, Charles Walker, Fay Jones, Jacob Young and Laura Farris … Blakeney bods including CEO Gabe Winn, Director Jack Sellers and digital guru Lily Drabble … hacks Andrew Pierce, Carolyn Quinn, Vicki Young, Dan Hodges, Geri Scott, Glenn Owen, Ollie Cole, James Heale, David Cornock, Anna Mikhailova and Adrian Masters … former No. 10 team Nerissa Chesterfield, Aidan Corley, Will Tanner, Douglas McNeil, Beatrice Timpson, Sophia Falkner, Sheridan Westlake, James Nation and Guto Harri … Anti-Slavery Commissioner Eleanor Lyons.
