Sam is one of the UK’s leading trade policy experts. He was previously a member of the Department for International Trade’s strategic trade advisory group (2019-20) and is regularly called on to brief businesses, parliamentarians, government officials and European institutions.

Sam often appears in the media, including the BBC Radio 4 Today Programme, The Financial Times, The Times, The New York Times, Politico, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal and Sky News. He is a senior research fellow at the Centre for European Reform, a think tank, and a visiting research fellow at The Policy Institute, Kings College London. He also co-founded the UK Trade Forum. Sam advises Blakeney's clients on trade policy with a particular focus on the EU-UK trade relationship, customs, border carbon taxes, regulatory barriers to trade and trade in services.
