James graduated from the University of Sussex with a First-Class Honours degree in politics. Keenly interested by party and electoral politics, his studies focused on party competition and the electoral market in the UK.

Before joining Blakeney, James gained experience at the Royal College of Podiatry in their employment relations department where he consulted on the creation of a campaigns toolkit for the union’s members. He has also volunteered in a successful communication campaign to make football more accessible to those on lower incomes.

James’ route to the PR and communications industry was particularly unique as he left school to become a plumbing and heating engineer. He completed an apprenticeship at an award-winning plumbing company and continued working as a plumber alongside his university studies.
