Accelerating Levidian’s decarbonisation mission

LOOP is a world-first decarbonisation device that can rapidly extract carbon from methane – the gas commonly used to power both domestic and industrial processes.

Demystifying decarbonisation to deliver results

Fresh out of a Cambridge University laboratory, Levidian created a revolutionary device that ‘cracks’ methane, separating it into clean hydrogen and carbon and locking the carbon into high-quality graphene.

The technology can help the hardest to abate sectors to decarbonise, while generating revenue from high-value products. But to make real impact, the business needed to grow fast. From piloting the technology in 2021, Levidian is now deploying industrial-scale units into the field.

The business is expanding rapidly, establishing international hubs in the Middle East and North America, and creating dozens of green jobs at its headquarters in Cambridge.

Telling the LOOP story

Levidian’s patented technology is sophisticated and unique, taking one of the most potent greenhouse gases, methane, and splitting it into two valuable and clean products. But doing so many things could lead to confusion over its unique potential; we needed a clear message to appeal to potential customers and investors.

To resolve this issue, Blakeney worked with Levidian’s leadership team to pinpoint where the technology will have most impact – in accelerating the transition to Net Zero – and we came up with the name LOOP: a decarbonisation device that provides hard-to-abate sectors with the business case for reducing their emissions.

This clear brand identity allowed us to go out to our contacts across politics and media and spread the word.

Integrating corporate communications and public affairs

In the crowded ecosystem of climate technology, Levidian’s unique technology stands out as an offer that can have real impact. To realise that ambition, Blakeney steadily built support from key stakeholders.

We introduced the company to politicians across the political spectrum, leading to then Trade Secretary Penny Mordaunt citing Levidian as a poster child for UK clean tech exporters in the Daily Express, while the UK Department for International Trade (DIT) and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) promoted Levidian on their LinkedIn pages, driving a significant increase in followers of Levidian.

Our team was on the ground at COP28 in Dubai, providing communications support, facilitating meetings and helping build partnerships in a region critical to business growth.

"We have worked with Blakeney since the inception of our business, to explain our complex technology and its impact in simple terms. To get our technology to grow at scale, we need that message to resonate and reach a large number of people. And for a company like ours that operates in the energy industry, Blakeney’s expertise has been critical in helping us to both understand and navigate the policy landscape, and also talk to policymakers about our technology and about our view of the market."
